Wedding Planning Checklist
Here’s a free tool to help you plan your special day, including wedding ceremony / temple sealing, luncheon, reception start, reception line / mingling, dancing, bouquet toss / garter toss, cutting the cake, exit music, etc.
You are welcome to use it as a personal planning guide, but if you are considering having me as your DJ, submitting it gives me a clear picture of your vision, music style, and reception flow so I can help create a stress-free wedding day that feels smooth, fun, and true to you.
Let’s take some worry from your big day!
What Happens After You Submit the Questionnaire?
After you submit your wedding day questionnaire, I’ll review the details and use them to prepare the music, announcements, timing, and reception flow for your event. If anything looks unclear or incomplete, I’ll follow up with you so we can make sure the important pieces are covered before the wedding day.
You do not need to have every answer finalized before filling this out. Many couples are still deciding on songs, timelines, special dances, or whether they want things like a bouquet toss, garter toss, or formal send-off. This form gives us a starting point so we can organize the reception around what matters most to you.
Your Wedding Reception Does Not Have to Follow a Script
Some wedding receptions are very structured, with a ceremony, grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting, toasts, bouquet toss, and a formal exit. Others are much more relaxed, with mostly mingling, background music, and dancing when the time feels right. Either approach can work well.
The goal is not to force your reception into a specific format. The goal is to understand what kind of celebration you want and then make the music and announcements support that plan. If you already know exactly what you want, great. If you only have a rough idea, that is completely normal too.
A DJ Helps Connect the Pieces
A wedding DJ is not just responsible for playing music. The DJ often helps connect the different parts of the reception so guests know what is happening and when. That may include announcing the couple’s entrance, inviting guests to gather for special dances, introducing cake cutting or toasts, or helping transition from dinner and mingling into dancing.
The more I understand your priorities ahead of time, the easier it is to keep the evening moving without making it feel rushed or awkward. Good planning helps the reception feel smooth, natural, and personal.
Choosing Music That Fits Your Guests
Your wedding music should reflect your taste, but it also helps to think about the people who will be there. Some receptions include a wide range of ages, family backgrounds, and music preferences. A good playlist can include songs that feel personal to you while still giving guests familiar music they can enjoy.
You can list must-play songs, do-not-play songs, favorite artists, preferred genres, and any music that would not fit the tone of your wedding. This is especially helpful if you want a fun dance without inappropriate music or if you want the reception to feel family-friendly while still being energetic.
Timing Matters More Than Most People Realize
The same wedding events can feel very different depending on when they happen. A first dance early in the evening can create a sweet, focused moment. Cake cutting later in the reception can bring guests back together after dancing has started. A planned exit song can make the send-off feel more intentional.
There is no single perfect timeline for every wedding. The right timeline depends on your venue, photography schedule, family traditions, guest count, dinner plans, and how much dancing you want. This questionnaire helps identify those details so the schedule supports the kind of reception you are hoping for.
You Can Keep Things Simple
Not every wedding needs every tradition. You can skip the garter toss, avoid long announcements, shorten special dances, keep the music low-key, or leave more room for casual mingling. You can also choose a reception that is highly organized and packed with meaningful moments.
Either way, the best plan is the one that fits you. This form is meant to help clarify your preferences, not add pressure. If something does not apply to your wedding, you can simply leave it blank or mark it as undecided.
Final Details Can Be Updated Later
Wedding plans often change as the date gets closer. Songs get changed, timelines shift, and family details sometimes need to be adjusted. That is normal. Submitting this questionnaire does not mean every detail is locked forever.
The most important thing is to start gathering the details early enough that your wedding DJ can prepare properly. Final updates can usually be made closer to the event, especially for song choices, announcement names, and small timing adjustments.
Ready to Plan a Smooth Wedding Reception?
A little planning before the wedding day can make a big difference in how relaxed everything feels during the reception. When the music, timeline, announcements, and special moments are organized ahead of time, you can spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying the celebration.
Fill out as much of the questionnaire as you can, and do not worry if some answers are still undecided. I can help you turn the information into a reception plan that feels organized, personal, and easy to follow.
